Highlights of June 14, 2016 Meeting
  • Mid South Regional Old Car Club met on June 14, 2016.  The meeting was called to order by Shelton Coleman.   Shelton welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked for prayer requests.  Jim Wolfe prayed for those mentioned by club members.
  • The minutes from our last meeting were read by Sue Coleman and approved as read.
  • Dera Jolet gave the financial report.
  • Shelton gave information on several car shows that included:
    • June 14 – 18                        Petit Jean
    • June 18                                 Baton Rouge
    • June 25                                 Peach Festival (Meet at Pilot)
    • July 9                                     Saline Watermelon Festival (Meet at Academy Sports)
  • There was no old business to discuss.
  • The club members discussed cruising to Log Cabin Restaurant in Ruston on July 2, 2016.  Motion was made by Bill Wynn, seconded by Ira Whittington to make the trip to Ruston.  Motion was approved.  We’ll leave at 4:00 on July 2 for Ruston.
  • The club voted on three new members and those were all approved.
  • Our club won $50.00 for having the most cars in the Chevy Car  Show.
  • We also had two member win a prize in that show.
  • Some of our members shared what they are doing on their cars.
  • Paxton Oliver shared a video of their trip to Branson, Missouri.
  • The Split-the-Pot drawing was won by Paxton Oliver who donated the $21.00 back to the club.

Highlights of May 10, 2016 Meeting
  • The May 10, 2016 meeting for the Mid South Regional Old Car Club was called to order by Shelton Coleman.  Shelton welcomed visitors to the meeting.
  • Prayer request were asked for and Jim Wolfe prayed for those in need of prayer.  Following the prayer, we were led in the pledge to the flag by Jim Wolfe.
  • Jim recognized those who had a birthday or wedding anniversary.
  • Shelton Coleman read the minutes from the April meeting and the minutes were approved.
  • There was no financial report given.
  • Shelton Coleman reported that there were two upcoming car shows.  The Veteran’s Home Car Show on May 28, 2016, and the Twin City Chevy Car Show on June 4, 2016, were announced.  Also, Ridge Avenue Baptist Church will have an auction and supper on June 4, 2016.
  • Shelton Coleman reported to the club that the $3,300.00 donation to Pilots for Patients was presented to Phillip Thomas at the River Market Car Show on       April 16, 2016.
  • Paxton Oliver had a video to show the club but couldn’t get the audio to work so we will see it at a later date.
  • The Split-the-Pot drawing was won by Bill Wynn, who donated it back to the club treasury.
  • The meeting adjourned.  The next meeting will be June 14, 2016 at 6:30 P.M.

Highlights of April 12, 2016 Meeting
  • The April 12, 2016 meeting for the Mid South Regional Old Car Club was called to order by Shelton Coleman.   Shelton welcomed visitors to the meeting.
  • Prayer request were asked for and Jim Wolfe prayed for those in need of prayer.  Following the prayer, we were led in the pledge to the flag by Jim Wolfe.
  • Jim recognized those with a birthday or wedding anniversary.
  • Sue Coleman read the minutes from the March meeting and they were approved.
  • Dera Jolet gave the financial report.  The club will give a donation of $3,300.00 to our selected charity, Pilots for Patients, on April 16, 2016, at the River Market. 
  • Shelton reported that there are three car shows on April 16, 2016.   Those shows are River Market, Jackson Parish Car Show, and Alexandria Car Show.  We have members going to both the River Market and Jackson Parish Car Show.  The group going to River Market will meet at Forsythe tennis courts.  Those going to Jackson Parish will meet at the Shell Station in Calhoun.
  • Bill Winn brought the trophy won for, Club With Most Cars, at the Franklin Parish Catfish Festival on April 9, 2016.
  • Ira Whittington told the club that the New Chapel Hill Baptist Church’s Car Show will be on September 25, 2016.  Cars should be there around 9:00 A.M.  Lunch will be served in the church gym.
  • Shelton Coleman said that we need to give Catfish Charlie’s a headcount for those that will be eating the buffet at our meetings.  Please call Dera Jolet’s office to let her know if you are coming or respond to Shelton Coleman’s e-mail reminding you of the meeting to let him know if you plan to attend.
  • Glyn Wink attended the meeting and share more information of the Crawfish Gator Fest to be held May 4 – 8, 2016.  She told the group that they will have cars, motorcycles, and possibly tractors this year.
  • In our member discussion Paxton Oliver, Bill Wynn, and Don Perry shared information about their cars.
  • Split the Pot was won by Shelton Coleman who gave it back to the club treasury.

Highlights of March 8, 2016 Meeting
  • The March 8, 2016 meeting for the Mid-South Regional Old Car Club was called to order by president Shelton Coleman.  Prayer request were taken and Jim Wolfe prayed for those concerns.  The pledge to the flag was led by Jim Wolfe.  Birthdays and anniversaries for February and March were recognized. 
  • Sue Coleman read a thank you card from Mrs. Earline Johnson and the R. L. Johnson family.
  • Minutes from the January meeting were read by Sue Coleman and approved by club members.
  • Dera Jolet gave the financial report.  She went over the income and expenses for this year’s budget.  We will give approximately $3,000.00 to Pilots for Patients.  We discussed giving the donation to Pilots for Patients at River Market on April 16, 2016.  Motion was made by Bill Wynn, second by Bill Duffy to approve the budget.  Motion approved. 
  • Mrs. Glyn Wink talked to the club about the second annual Crawfish-Gator Fest on May 4 – 8.  The car show will be on Saturday, May 7.  Pre-registration will be $10.00 by April 15 or $20.00 at the gate.  Two tickets come with one car registration.  You can bring cars in on Friday.  They will also have motorcycles at the show.  Mrs. Wink said there will be door prizes and that they will have a PA system this year.
  • We had a discussion about what Members are doing with their cars and several members gave updates on their cars.  George Moore won a trophy at the Vidalia Car Show.
  • Split-the-pot was won by Dera Jolet who said she wanted the Split-the-pot money put back in the club account.  The Split-the-pot was $23.00.
  • Shelton Coleman thanked everyone for their participation.

Highlights of January 12, 2016 Meeting
  • Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and blessed the food.  Prayer request were taken by Shelton Coleman.  Jim Wolfe offer a prayer for those mentioned.  Jim led us in the pledge to the flag.  Birthdays and anniversaries for the month of January were recognized by Jim. 
  • Secretary, Sue Coleman, read the minutes for November 10, 2015.  Minutes were edited and approved as edited.
  • Dera Jolet, treasurer, gave a financial report. 
  • Word of Wheels in Shreveport, LA., will be having their car show.
  • The club had a discussion about getting a Tax ID – 501 Charity.  Motion was made by Stan Huffty to apply for the Tax ID.   Motion approved. 
  • We discussed getting a permanent address for the club.  A motion was made by Bill Duffy, seconded by Donnie Franks, to get a post office box.  Motion approved. 
  • Shelton thanked the group for their participation and presence.  The meeting adjourned.
  • The next club meeting will be held on Feb. 9, 2016 at 6:30 PM.

Highlights of November 10, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and blessed the food.
  • Shelton Coleman took the prayer request and Jim Wolfe offered the prayer for those mentioned.  Jim recognized those having birthdays and anniversaries in November.  The pledge of Allegiance was then led by Jim. 
  • Sue Coleman, filling in for Nelda Oliver, then read the minutes of the October meeting.  Minutes were approved as read.
  • Paul Danner gave the Financial Report for the car show. 
  • Upcoming car shows were discussed which included Riverwalk in Monroe, Lecompte, and LifeShare.
  • Bill Wynn and Bob Shumate represented our club at the Veterans Home event.  Bill Wynn reported that Bill Duffy won First in Class, The Most Distance Traveled, and Best of Show at Arcadia.
  • Shelton Coleman read the list of those recommended by the board for election of officers and gave each member a copy of the ballot.  Bill Duffy was nominated for member elect.  No further nominations were made by members.  The ballots were counted by Vice-president, Jim Wolfe, and the following people were elected as officers for 2016:

  • There was a short discussion about the Christmas Party to be held December 8.
  • Bill Wynn won the Split the Pot.

Highlights of October 13, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and blessed the food.
  • Jim Wolfe called for prayer requests and led in prayer for those mentioned.  It was announced that HV Shaw, founder of our club, was home and doing much better.  Jim then recognized those having birthdays and anniversaries in October.  Later, he led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Paxton Oliver, filling in for Nelda Oliver, read the minutes of the September meeting.  They were approved as read.  He also read two letters of thanks from Faith United Methodist Church.  Both letters thanked the Club for bringing our classics to the Church Fall Market on September 19, 2015.
  • Paul Danner gave the Financial Report with copies distributed to members.
  • Vice President Jim Wolfe reported to the Club that jackets ordered had been given out.  He stated that if more want a new jacket another order might be made.
  • The October 10, 2015 Columbia car show was discussed.  Rick Jolet and Bill Wynn each won a 3rd place award.
  • Paxton Oliver announced that car show shirts were ready for distribution.  He said that all was ready for our Annual Car Show to be held October 17, 2015. 
  • No other old business was discussed.  Under New Business Shelton asked that a Christmas party committee be formed.  Nelda, Sue and Doris will serve.  Shelton asked that an officer nominating committee be formed.  Members were not determined by the end of the meeting.
  • Gaylord Lord was approved for membership.  Meeting adjourned.  Next meeting will be November 10th.

Highlights of September 8, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and blessed the food.
  • Jim Wolfe called for prayer requests and led in prayer for those mentioned.  He then recognized those having birthdays and anniversaries in September.  Later, he led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Nelda Oliver read the minutes of the August meeting.  They were approved as read.
  • Paul Danner gave the Financial Report with copies distributed to members.
  • Vice President Jim Wolfe reported to the Club that 13 members signed up to buy a new Club jacket. The order will be placed in September.
  • Upcoming car shows were announced: Lakeshore family day, Faith United Methodist Market, Arcadia show, Columbia show, MSRSOCC show and Crosset  show (November 06-08).
  • Ken Clow reported their Antique Days, Regional Tractor Pull and car show was a success.  Our club won 2nd and 3rd place for cars.
  • Paxton Oliver led the Club in a discussion of our Annual Car show.  Members were encouraged to buy two hand cleaning products for the give-away bag and to bring them to the October meeting.
  • Other than our Annual Car Show no old business was discussed.  Under New Business a discussion was held whether to continue Club meetings at Catfish Charley’s.  A motion was made by Jim Wolfe and seconded by Paul Danner to continue.  The vote was unanimous to remain at Catfish Charley’s.
  • Shelton thanked the Club for participating in club events and working with him this year.

Highlights of August 11, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order.  Paxton Oliver, guest speaker, talked about our Fall Car Show to be held October 17, 2015. Paxton will speak to the Club again next meeting.
  • Jim Wolfe called for prayer requests and led in prayer for those mentioned.  He then recognized those having birthdays and anniversaries in July.  Later, he led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Nelda Oliver read the minutes of the June meeting.  They were approved as read.
  • Paul Danner gave the Financial Report with copies distributed to members.
  • Under Old Business Vice President Jim Wolfe talked about Club Jackets.  We need an exact number of those who want to buy a jacket.
  • Under upcoming car shows the Antique Days of Ruston Festival was announced. There will be an antique tractor pull and people’s choice car show on Saturday the 22nd. Those wanting to attend are invited to meet at the Pilot Travel Center in West Monroe at 7:30 AM to travel to the event.
  • Those members placing at the June 2015 Saline Watermelon Festival were Bill Wynn 1st for his 61 Plymouth Valiant, Bill Duffy travelled the longest distance to the show, Dennis Cooper won 2nd place and Shelton Coleman with his Corvette received a 1st place trophy.  Trophies were shown to the Club.
  • Donny Welch was approved for Club Membership this date.
  • Split the Pot was held.  Our new member Donny won.  A total of $71 was collected.  Bill Duffy won a 6 pack cooler.

Highlights of June 9, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order, announced that Paxton Oliver would be our speaker next time and then blessed our food.
  • Jim Wolfe called for prayer requests and led in prayer for those mentioned. He then announced birthdays and anniversaries for this month. Jim led the Club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Afterwards, Nelda Oliver read the May minutes which were approved as read.  Also read was a letter from Nelda  Emfinger  thanking us for flowers sent for Gene’s funeral.
  • Paul Danner, Treasurer, then gave the financial report with copies distributed to Club members.
  • Car shows past and future were then discussed.  Our Club had 10 vehicles registered for the Twin City Classic show held on June 6th.  Bill Wynn won a first place, Larry Cox placed in the Top Ten for Street Rods and Paxton Oliver won a third place.
  • Upcoming car shows were announced:  June 16-20 Petit Jean, June 27 Ruston Peach Festival car show, July 4th Ridge Avenue show starting at 7:00 PM. and July 11th Saline Watermelon Festival show.
  • Under Old Business the purchasing of Club Jackets was discussed.  The set-up fee is $100.  To get the best price we need 20 jackets to be purchased.   Ron Sammons made a motion to table the jackets for now.  Ira seconded the motion.   Before we can order we need a more accurate accounting of members wanting a jacket.
  • Our Charity for 2016 was discussed.  A motion was made by Bill Wynn and seconded by Paxton Oliver that we continue our support of Pilots for Patients.  The vote was unanimous to continue.
  • Keith Hunt was approved for membership.  We will have another application to vote on at our next meeting.
  • Split the Pot was held.   Nelda Oliver won.
  • Meeting adjourned.  Our next meeting will be July 14, 2015.

Highlights of May 12, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and led in a prayer to bless our food.  Shelton requested that members knowing of interested speakers should notify him.
  • Club member, Ken Clow invited the Club to a tractor pull in Ruston on August 22nd and passed out flyers.  There will be a People’s Choice Award. Shelton thanked Ken for his work as our Web-Master.  Ken gave a website presentation and passed out copies of our website status.
  • Jim Wolfe called for birthdays and anniversaries.  He also asked for any prayer requests. Jim led the Club in prayer and in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Paul Hansen reported that Pilots for Patients has been contacted about helping Squirrel Langston get to Houston for treatment.
  • Ron Sammons discussed the new Club jacket.  It is navy blue, lined and has the Club logo on the front and back.  The priced is less than $55.  Members should tell Ron if they want to order and give their sizes at the next meeting.
  • Afterwards, Nelda Oliver read the April minutes which were approved as read.  Also read was a letter from our sponsored charity, Pilots for Patients, thanking us for our generous donation to their cause.
  • Paul Danner, Treasurer, then gave the financial report with copies distributed to Club members.   The balance does not reflect the donation to Pilots for Patients.
  • The Deputies’  car show is May 16 at Lake Shore Elementary School.  The Veterans Home will have a program on May 23rd.  The Ruston show is June27 & Club leaves from the Pilot Truck Stop at 7:30 AM.
  • At the Gator Fest on May 2nd Paul Danner won a first place and Bill Wynn won a second place.  Jim Wolfe, Tommy Cannon and Paxton Oliver won third places.  MSROCC won the participants trophy.
  • Old and New business were called for.  There was none.  Ron Sammons had reported on Jackets earlier in the meeting.
  • Steve Mintz was approved to be reinstated this date.
  • Split the Pot was held and Susan Clow won the buckle.
  • Meeting adjourned.  Our next meeting will be June 9, 2015.

Highlights of April 14, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests.
  • It was announced that Ken Clow, our web master, will make a presentation next meeting.
  • Prayer requests were called for.  Vice President Jim Wolfe led in prayer and in the Pledge of Allegiance.  He recognized those with anniversaries and birthdays.
  • Afterwards, Nelda Oliver, Secretary, read the March minutes which were approved as read.
  • Paul Danner, Treasurer, then gave the financial report with copies distributed to Club members.
  • The Catfish Festival , held April 11, 2015, was discussed.  MSROCC had the most entries at the show.  Tommy Cannon won People’s Choice and a second place trophy.
  • Shows coming up soon are the Jackson Parish Show on April 18th, the LA Crawfish/Gatorfest on May 2 and the Twin City Classic Chevy Club on June 6.  Flyers for these shows were distributed. 
  • Under Old business Paul Danner showed club members the new club visors and caps that will sell for $10 each.  Also, a motion was made by Bill Duffey and seconded by Bill Wynn that we purchase new jackets and have them by early fall.  The vote was unanimous for us to order them.  Shelton then asked for a committee to work on purchasing jackets.  Ron and Evelyn will chair this committee with Jim and Cathy Wolfe serving.  The club decided that jackets should cost no more than $55 per item.
  • Also under Old Business the Club voted unanimously for Treasurer Paul Danner to issue an April check in the amount of $4000 to our 2015 charity (Pilots for Patients).   Later this month, Shelton will present the check to Philip Thomas of Pilots for Patients.
  • New members approved by the Club this date were: Gus and Jane Campbell, Joel and Shirley Parker and Jack and Jeanie Green

Highlights of March 10, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests.
  • Phillip Thomas gave a presentation about Pilots for Patients.  This organization assists with air transportation for those needing help getting to medical facilities.
  • Glyn Winks gave information about the Louisiana Crawfish/Gatorfest event. A Car Show at the IKE will be a part of this May 2, 2015 event.
  • Prayer requests were called for and VP Jim Wolfe led in prayer and in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Afterwards, Nelda Oliver read the February minutes which were approved as read.
  • Paul Danner, Treasurer, then gave the financial report.  The Club approved the balance.
  • Paxton Oliver gave a report from the Committee working to recommend a worthy nonprofit organization to donate funds to in 2015. The committee recommended Pilots for Patients.
  • Old Business was called for.  There was none.   Under New Business the Club voted to support Pilots for Patients for 2015.  Larry Cox made the motion and it was seconded by Ira Whittington.
  • Ken and Susan Clow were approved for Club membership this date.
  • Ronnie Nolan reported that the Columbia Car Show will be held on October 10, 2015.
  • Larry Cox won Split the Pot.
  • The meeting was adjourned.  Our next meeting will be April 14 2015.

Highlights of February 10, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests.
  • Prayer requests were asked for.  VP Jim Wolfe led in prayer and in the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Paul Danner, Treasurer, gave the financial report.  The Club is in the black.
  • Old Business was called for.  Paxton Oliver gave a progress report of the Club Charity Committee.  Prior to the March meeting the committee will research and reduce the number of named charities.
  • There was a discussion about the donation amount that would be given to the selected worthy organization.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to give a total of $4000 this year.
  • Under New Business, the date of the Columbia Car Show was discussed.  We will determine this date so that our Club’s Annual Car Show will not coincide with theirs.
  • MSROCC was asked if we wanted to join the Classic Chevy Club to sponsor a chili supper at the D’Arbonne show.  The Club agreed but later in the month the D’Arbonne show was cancelled.
  • Securing caps and visors for our Club members was discussed.  A motion was made by Jim Wolfe and seconded by Charles Rand that we do this.
  • Ira Whittington won Split-the-Pot.
  • The meeting was adjourned. Our next meeting will be March 10, 2015.
Highlights of January 13, 2015 Meeting
  • President Shelton Coleman called the meeting to order and welcomed our members and guests.  New members Timothy Stone, Kenneth Templet and Mike Boone were approved for club membership.
  • Our Guest Speaker, Tom Faulkner, with the Lake D’Arbonne State Park, gave information about the Annual Vintage Car Show to be held March 14. (THIS SHOW WAS LATER CANCELLED.)
  • Prayer requests were called for. Vice President, Jim Wolfe, led in prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and in the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.
  • The January Anniversaries and Birthdays were announced. Afterward, Nelda Oliver read the Minutes of the November Meeting and they were approved as read.
  • Paul Danner, Treasurer, reported the Club’s balance as of this date is $9,749.52.
  • There was no Old Business.  Under New Business, Bill Wynn was approved as this year’s Board Member At Large.  Afterwards, there was discussion about having the Club’s monthly Board meeting at 5:30 pm on the same night as the Club meeting (referred to the Board).
  • A question then arose as to whether or not the Club needed to look at changing the location of our Annual Car show.  The Club decided to remain at the Glenwood Mall location for 2015.
  • President Shelton Coleman asked if a committee to study Club charities for 2015 should be formed.  A motion was made to form this committee and the Club passed the motion.  Paxton Oliver will chair. Other members are Jim and Kathy Wolfe, Nathan and Betty Rice and Nelda Oliver.
  • The meeting was adjourned.  Our next meeting is February 10, 2015 at 6 pm at Catfish Charlie’s.

Highlights of November 12, 2014 Meeting
  • President Paxton Oliver called the meeting to order.  Prayer requests were called for and Paxton led the Club in prayer.  Vice President Ira Whittington read birthdays and anniversaries.  The Pledge of allegiance was lead by Paxton.
  • Reports were given on attended car shows such as the Crossett show and recent events such as visiting the Veterans Home, the traveling Vietnam Wall and cruising at the downtown River walk event.
  • The annual MSROCC car show was discussed.  There were 55 registered and 31 Club cars in attendance.  Considering the tornado damage to the area the show was considered a success.  Final financial reports will be made in December.
  • Treasurer Paul Danner gave the financial report.  It was approved. Several members paid for their car show shirts and paid for 2015 dues.  The 10-24-14 bank statement was approved.
  • The slate of nominees for 2015 officers was read by Bill Wynn:  President – Shelton Coleman, Vice President- Jim Wolfe, Secretary-vacant, Treasurer-Paul Danner, Parliamentarian-Will Manuel, board members –Paxton Oliver and one more to be determined. Our greatest need is for a secretary for 2015.
  • The Christmas party for December was discussed.  Nelda Oliver will chair the planning committee. The party is scheduled for December 9, 2015 at Catfish Charlie’s during the regular meeting time.

Highlights of October 14, 2014 Meeting

We met in the parking lot of Catfish Charlie’s due to power outage from the storm that passed through our area on October 13th.  The purpose of the meeting was to give out Car Show shirts prior to our show on October 18th.  No business, reports or minutes were discussed at this emergency meeting.

Highlights of September 9, 2014 Meeting

  • Paxton asked the blessing for our meal. Paxton introduced Matt Matusiak, Executive Director of Camp Quality.  Matt spoke to us about what Camp Quality does for children with cancer.  Matt was given a MSROCC check for $3562 to help Camp Quality.
  • Paxton asked for prayer requests and Jim Wolfe led in prayer.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Paxton.  Don Perry read the minutes.  Ira read birthdays and anniversaries of club members. Paul Danner gave the financial report.  Donnie Franks was approved as a new member.
  • Future car events were announced.  The Street Rod show will be on 9-13 in West Monroe .  Lakeshore Baptist Church will have a cruise in on 9-27 from 10-noon.  New Chapel Hill Baptist Church will have a cruise in on 9-28 from 8 till 1:00.  Church and dinner will be available.
  • Our annual car show will be 10-18-14 at Glenwood Mall Parking lot.  Lanny McVay will be our emcee.  A car show duties sign-up sheet was passed around.  Paxton presented the car show shirt artwork by projecting the image on the wall.  After discussion, members signed up to purchase shirts for $15.
  • Bill Wynn reported on two tours held in August.  Several members enjoyed the tractor pull in Ruston and ate at the Hot Rod Café.  The second tour was from Monroe to Farmerville to eat at the 50’s diner and to tour the Edgewood Plantation House.  Thanks goes to Bill for these fine events.  Faye Huffy made a picture poster of the Edgewood Plantation House and Stan displayed it at the meeting.
  • Bill Wynn (Chair), Ronnie Nolan, Larry Cox and Paxton Oliver are on the Nominating Committee to select nominees for future club officers.

Highlights of August 12, 2014 Meeting
  •  Paxton Oliver asked the blessing for our meal and later led in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Jim Wolfe led in the opening prayer.  Paxton introduced Ken Clow who spoke to us about the Tractor pull this coming Saturday.  We will leave the event around 12:30 and eat at Hod Rods café.  The club will pay up to $10 toward each meal.  Bill Wynn gave a report on the Saline Watermelon car show.  Our club had two members attend and both won a first place trophy.
  • Future shows are Street Rods on September 13th in West Monroe - 9 am, New Chapel Hill Baptist Old Fashion Day on September 28th - 8 am, and Monroe River Market on November 8th - 10 am.
  • Paul Hansen gave us a Pinto pep talk and gave us his version of the twelve steps in purchasing an old vehicle.  (Very creative and enjoyed by all.)
  • Don Perry read the minutes.  Ira read the anniversaries and birthdays. Paul Danner gave the financial report.  The Club has a balance of $7505 in the general fund.
  • Paxton will invite the Director of Camp Quality to the September meeting.  The club decided to give our 2013 donation to Camp Quality in September 2014.
  • The car show committee and the Board decided that our car show shirts this year will be light yellow and have a 56 blue T-Bird, a 57 red Plymouth Fury and a 58 light green Chevy Cameo pick up on the front.
  • The first 75 registrants at our car show will receive a free car show shirt. Members can purchase a car show shirt.  Advertisement for the show will be in the News Star during the week prior to the show.  Larry Cox will put an advertisement on Craig’s list.
  •  Bill Wynn set up a tour of the Baughman house in Farmerville for August 23rd.  Those attending will eat at the 50’s Diner prior to the Farmerville tour. The club will pay for the tour fee.
  • Split the pot netted $20.

Highlights of July 8, 2014 Meeting
  • Paxton Oliver asked the blessing for our meal and later led in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Jim Wolfe led in the opening prayer.  Reports and stories of past car shows were given.  Future car shows are Saline Watermelon on July 12th and the Ruston Tractor Pull and show on August 16th.  Tours to Farmerville and the restored Mansion will be deferred until cooler weather.
  • Paxton reported that an “Application” link is now on our Web site.
  •  Four Brothers in West Monroe will have cruise-ins on the 3rd Saturday in the afternoon.  Coney Island will have cruise-ins on the 4th Saturday afternoon.
  • Don Perry read the minutes.  Ira read the anniversaries and birthdays. Paul Danner gave the financial report.  The Club has a balance of over $6500.
  • The Car Show committee reported that a meeting was held with Don Bell of Glenwood Mall.  He will ask his Board if we can pay $200 for mall security on the day of the show for use of inside facilities.  More later.
  • The Club decided to have three vehicles on the Car show shirt representing GMC, Ford, Mopar.  The Car Show committee and Board to determine exact vehicles.
  • Member sponsors will be told that sponsorship is reduced to one half of 2013 fees.  If they still want to give full fee prices, we will take it.A motion was made and seconded that MSROCC not have an auction at the 2014 car show.  Motion passed.
  • Pictures of past shows and classics were projected on the wall.  Good conversation followed.

Highlights of June 19, 2014 Meeting
  • Stan Huffty asked the blessing for our food.  Paxton led in the pledge of Allegiance.  Don Perry led in the opening prayer. Past car events were discussed.  The Ruston Peach Festival is on 6-28-14.  We will leave the Pilot Center at 7 am that day.  Minutes were read by Don Perry. Ira Whittington read Birthdays and Anniversaries.  Paul Danner gave the financial report.  The Club has a balance of over $6000.
  •  The Car Show Committee asked: 1) if Car Show shirts will be ordered and handled like last year.  Members said yes; 2) Do we want to reduce sponsor fees for members?  Members said yes; 3) Does the club want to have an auction?  Members decided to defer this until next meeting.
  • A meeting with Don Bell, manager of Glenwood Mall, will be scheduled to determine if inside restrooms can be used during the car show.
  • Ronnie Nolan reported that the 2015 Columbia car show will be held on October 17th and will conflict with our 2015 show.  More information will be forthcoming.
  •  Pictures of past 2014 car shows were projected on the wall for all to see.  Good stories followed.
  •  Split the Pot of $54 was donated back to the Club.

Highlights of May 13, 2014 Meeting
  • Ira Whittington asked the blessing for our food.  Paxton Oliver led in the Pledge and asked for prayer requests.  Don Meador led in prayer.  Paxton reviewed the Catfish Festival car show and the Jonesboro car show.  A number of our club members won trophies at these shows.  Upcoming car shows will be in Columbia (5-7), Vicksburg (6-7), Petit Jean (6-10thru14) and Natchez (6-17).
  • Bill Wynn presented touring ideas: 50’s diner and tour Baughman house in Farmerville, VA Home Memorial Day celebration on May 24th, Hamburg/Smackover, Ark, Oak Grove theater on a Saturday.
  • The car show committee this year includes Ronnie Nolan, Rick Jolet, Larry Cox, Shelton Coleman and Paxton Oliver. The committee will make a report next meeting. Don Perry read the April minutes.  Ira Whittington read birthdays/ anniversaries. Paul Danner gave the financial report.
  • Paxton projected pictures of the Winnsboro and Jonesboro car shows.  Meeting adjourned.
Highlights of April 8, 2014 Meeting
  • After the buffet Paxton opened the business meeting.  He gave an overview of the D’Arbonne car show. Nathan Rice was a trophy winner in the show. Bill Wynn gave a report on the Oak Grove show.  Upcoming shows are Winnsboro Catfish Festival on April 12th and the Jonesboro show on the 19th.
  • The Club decided to give Camp Quality our donation at the September 2014 telethon.
  • Paxton asked if there were any volunteers to be the chair of our annual 2014 car show.  He will ask again in May.
  • Paxton presented our website using a power point presentation.  Additionally, we viewed pictures of the D’Arbonne show that are on the web.
  • Jim Wolfe used the power point equipment to show a brief video on different transportation modes to the Southern Baptist Convention in Texas.  Jim used his Green 1928 Chevy two door coupe to get to the Convention.

Highlights of March 11, 2014 Meeting
  • After the buffet, Paxton opened the business meeting.  Jon Witherington spoke to us again about the D’Arbonne car show.  Registration is free and begins at 8 am March 22, 2014.  The cruise begins at 6 pm on March 21st. 
  • Ira announced that the D’Arbonne cook out begins at 4 pm on March 22nd.  Claire Perry will prepare the chili and ladies were encouraged to bring desserts.
  • The Club approved giving $3561 to Camp Quality from proceeds collected at the 2013 Annual car show. 
  • Paxton and Ken Clow are developing our website and hope to launch it in April. Photos will be taken at car shows and included in the site. Paxton presented a vintage video of a 1920’s oilfield Dodge truck that could not be stopped by mud, water or oil.

Highlights of February 3, 2014 Meeting
  • After the buffet, Paxton opened the business meeting.  Ken Clow and his wife Susan from the North Louisiana Vintage Tractor Club were guests.  Ken presented information about Antique Days of Ruston to be held August 16th that would include tractor pulls and a car show.  He invited us to attend.  Additionally, Ken said that he is the webmaster for his club.   Paxton asked the club if we would like to have a website.  The Club approved.  Ken and Paxton will develop the site at no cost to the Club. 
  • The Club discussed holding back expense money for our Annual Car Show to be held on October 18, 2014. This will be voted on next month.
  • Bill Wynn volunteered to head up a Tours committee for this year. Contact him with ideas.
  • Paul Hansen presented a slide presentation of a truck he is building.  Others, who have builds done or are in progress, were encouraged to send pictures to Paxton to be entered into a slide presentation.
  • The D’Arbonne poster raffle was won by Ira and brought in enough money to sponsor the cook out at the D’Arbonne show.

Highlights of January 14, 2014 Meeting
  • After the buffet, Paxton opened the business meeting.  Jon Witherington of the LA. State Parks spoke about the Lake D’Arbonne State Park March 22 car show.  Jon gave the club a poster to raffle off.
  • Two new members were approved.
  • Paxton suggested that we attend car shows, especially of those who attend our show, and that we take cruises and tours this year.  He also suggested that the Club have two other parties in addition to the Christmas party. These suggestions will be discussed at other meetings.
  • Ira Wittington suggested that the Club have a cookout with other clubs at the Lake D’Arbonne  show. This will be discussed at other meetings.
  • Evelyn Sammons will publish a list of events for this year.
